The Akshardham Temple was officially opened on November 6, 2005, and was built under the guidance of Pramukh Swami Maharaj, the spiritual leader of the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha. The temple complex was constructed in just five years with the help of over 8,000 volunteers and artisans.
The word “Akshardham” means the eternal, divine abode of God. The temple is dedicated to Bhagwan Swaminarayan (1781–1830), who is believed by followers to be a manifestation of the divine.
Architectural Brilliance
Akshardham Temple is an architectural masterpiece crafted entirely from pink sandstone and white marble, materials considered auspicious in Hinduism. The main temple is intricately carved with over 20,000 statues, floral motifs, domes, and pillars that depict gods, dancers, animals, and scenes from Hindu mythology.

In the evening, a stunning Sahaj Anand Water Show combines light, sound, water, and storytelling to present an ancient story from the Kena Upanishad.
4. Bharat Upavan
This is a garden showcasing bronze statues of India’s great saints, warriors, freedom fighters, and national heroes like Maharana Pratap, Subhas Chandra Bose, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
